Delano Howell’s Speed and Agility Camp was also held last year at Hart High, but Howell teamed up this year with Velocity Sports’ Santa Clarita location to bring back the event.
“Delano used to play here at Hart High School of course, so hes giving back to the community and doing an event for us,” Nick Berger, sports performance director for Velocity Sports, said. “We’re out here trying to get everyone interested in football and speed and agility.”
Howell is currently a strong safety for the Colts, and was a running back during his time at Hart High School before graduating in 2008.
Berger said the training camp was designed to target and enhance skills specifically useful for football players.
“We’re split up into 6 different stations,” Berger said. “We have speed and agility stations set up as well as functional movement assessments and some combination stations. We have three different things were working on and we’re trying to get our athletes more athletic and moving their bodies in space.”
The stations were run by coaches from Velocity Sports as well as Howell himself, who ran one of the six stations set up at the camp.
The two-day camp cost a total of $99 dollars for each player and the price included an integrated assessment, autographed picture and football from Howell, small group coaching, Under Armour camp shirt and video analysis, along with lunch, water and gatorade.
The camp was attended by about 60 children on each day, Berger said.
