Hart Student Attacked, Injured On Way To School

Victim was hit with a miniature baseball bat.

UPDATED: Thursday, 2:15 p.m.

[view:node_ad=5]A 15 year-old Hart High School student was attacked just before 8:00  this morning on his way to school in Newhall Park.

According to Sergeant Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, the student was confronted in the park by up to four others. The situation escalated when the boy was hit with a miniature baseball bat, similar to those sold as souvenirs during baseball games. The student received a laceration to the head.

After being struck in the head the student fled to safety and was transported to a local hospital, treated and released.

Sgt. Harris says that preliminary evidence indicates the attack is connected to an earlier incident at the high school. Investigators do not believe that the attack was a hate crime.

Sheriff’s investigators are confident that they know who is behind this attack, and they are looking for the suspects now.

Hart District Spokesperson Pat Willett told KHTS that campus personnel have all been briefed on the incident and asked to be extra vigilant around the campus, especially when school lets out for the day.
