Hazardous Weather Hits Southland, Expected To Get Worse Tonight

Severe_Weather_watchA hazardous weather watch is in effect for the storm, which is expected to bring thunderstorms and hail before tomorrow morning.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold storm system over the area has brought rain, with snow expected above 3,000 feet. Heavy snow is expected to increase in intensity today across the mountains, then fall tonight across the desert as the snow level drops to 2,500 feet across the interior parts of the area.

Highs today are expected in the low 50s, with temperatures dropping into the low 40s tonight. Rain is expected to continue into Tuesday.

Roadways and passes will be impacted with heavy snow and winter driving conditions (for county road closures, click here). Motorists are urged to take precautions and delay travel until conditions improve.

There is also a threat of thunderstorms bringing hail, brief heavy downpours, dangerous cloud-to-surface lightning and gusty and erratic winds.
