Hazy Skies Are All Smoke, No Fire – UPDATED

UPDATED 4:15 p.m. Thursday

A haze of smoke from the La Brea fire, more than 60 miles from Santa Clarita, blew into town, raising fears that a brush fire was burning in the valley. Angeles National Forest spokesman Stanton Florea said that the fire, which has already burned 41 acres, is expected to continue for several days, much like the Day and Zaca  Fires from a few years back.

Santa Clarita residents were puzzled to look out their front doors to a haze hanging over the valley.

The culprit was quickly identified as the La Brea fire, burning this week in the Los Padres National Forest in Santa Barbara County. Strong winds have carried the smoke to settle in over the Valley, masking the scheduled sunshine but also providing some welcome relief from the heat.

No fires are reported in the Santa Clarita Valley.
