Heads Up Gets An Optimist(ic) Boost

Heads Up, a non profit Horseback Therapy organization has received a new heater for their staff trailer. The new heater was paid for by the Optimist Club of Santa Clarita, who are also holding a Bowl-A-Thon on February 17th, with proceeds going to Heads Up.

The heater was installed in the trailer where Terry and Jim Tindell live with their two children. The Optimist club had been volunteering with Heads Up when they noticed that the trailer had no working heater. With winter on the horizon, they were able to work with Roland Air to get a brand new heater for the family.

Heads Up has been around since 1986, and they provide therapy for children with a range of disabilities, be they physical, mental or emotional.

Horseback Therapy at Heads Up involves putting children on and around horses, which provides sensory input, and stimulates rhythmic patterns that the disabled may lack. In addition, the therapy expands the child’s social interaction by letting them form a bond with the horses and other children in the classes.

“The goal is to expand their world and give them a larger quality of life.” Says Tindell, who noticed the therapy’s success in her son who has Asperger's Syndrome.
