Jim Tindell, injured in recent SCV fires

Heads-Up, a non profit horseback therapy organization located in Saugus, suffered greatly from the tragic fires of last week.  The family members of Jim Tindell, the organization's Operations Director, who lives on-site with his wife Terry and two children, were heavy-hearted as they accounted for their losses which included their home, the housing for the horses and all their equipment amounting an estimated $60,000.

However, the concern was highest for Jim who suffered burns while trying to escape the fire.

When the Tindell's were informed of the imminent fire, Jim sent his family safely away while he went to save the horses who were in their stalls.  He brought them to the training arena which although is surrounded by brush, acted as a dry, dirt island where Jim and the horses were relatively safe but trapped until the fires subsided.

During the escape, Jim suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his hands and face which he is recovering from currently in the ICU.  According to Dr. Michael Holt, Jim will require three more weeks of skin grafting surgery but he is reported to be in stable conditions.

At this time all visitation is limited to only immediate family.  However there is strong recovery and relief effort for this hometown hero being led by Eileen McDaniel and Veronica Feather.  McDaniel, who is in charge of the volunteer efforts, said "The outpouring of help has been just amazing" and that there still need for volunteers despite their experience.

However volunteers that have horse expertise and/or are available between the hours of 8-10am & 1-4pm are strongly encouraged to lend a hand.  In addition, in the nearby future there will be a need for contractors to help rebuild the facilities.

For more information please contact Eileen McDaniel at tegoem@aol.com or call her at (661) 645-8591  If you would like to donate to the Tindell family, there is currently a gift registry at Target under "Jim Tindell".  Gifts are not limited to Target but please contact Veronica Feathers for more information at pluma41@sbcglobal.net or call her at (661) 993-1725.
