September is Healthy Aging Month which means it’s time to celebrate growing older by doing things that add years to your life–and making the most out of those years by being as healthy as possible.
Being healthy doesn’t happen by accident. It takes knowledge and the ability to
make the right choices. But that doesn’t mean it has to be hard. Believe it or not, it
can even be fun. Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital offers three helpful ways
to promote healthy aging that you can begin this September.
Some things that you can do to stay healthy this fall and winter season is to visit Henry Mayo for;
Free Flu Shots. Free flu shots will be offered to adults 50 years of age and older or adults in a
high risk category, while supplies last, at the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber’s 27th
Community Expo on Saturday, September 17, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Santa
Clarita Sports Complex in Canyon Country, 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway. For more
information, please call 661-200-1306.
Also, look into Fall Prevention and Health Screenings. Seniors are invited to learn more about fall prevention and how to preserve their
independence at the Falls Prevention Fair on Friday, September 23, 9 am – 11 am, at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, in Newhall. The Fall Prevention Fair will include free health screenings, medication review, and fall prevention strategies. For more information, please call 661-200-1306.
The third helpful way is to Take Care of Your Back. Henry Mayo’s popular Spine Education class offers valuable information on how to
prevent back and neck injuries and protect your spine. The free monthly class is offered on the hospital campus and at the Outpatient Physical Therapy location in Golden Valley. For dates and times, please call 661-253-8959.
