“Not One More is a nonprofit organization that was started by parents and loved ones who had lost people to addiction,” explains Sharits.
The organization began its work nearly seven years ago and now has chapters across the country.

“We realized that it was more than just that couple of parents that were involved with this,” says Montoya. “It was people dealing with addiction, it was people dealing with loss of life.”
Sharits and Montoya both agree that the drug epidemic, specifically heroin, is seen in almost every town and that the issue is widespread.
“There’s not a city in the United States, maybe even in the world, that isn’t affected by drugs,” explains Sharits. “But the horrible opiate epidemic has been sweeping our nation for a while now.”
One way that The Way Out Recovery SCV hopes to help is by encouraging people to speak up about the problem.
“I think there’s a lot of cities in the United States that are really starting to take a stand and step up and talk about (the drug epidemic),” says Sharits. “It wasn’t like that even five, six years ago.”
Montoya agrees, even saying that talking about addiction can be eye opening for loved ones.
“We talk about bullying or we talk about a smart phone and what the kids are finding on their smartphone,” says Montoya of discussions with parents. “Or even the medicines in their own medicine cabinet.”
The Way Out Recovery SCV would like to empower families to able to see what’s really going on inside of their household so that they can have open discussions, according to Sharits.
“I know there’s a lot of relief on a family’s part,” concludes Sharits, “when you make it okay to talk about addiction openly.”
