Exercise Your Way To A Healthier, Longer Life

How to get the most out your exercise investment.

By Dr. Thomas Polucki

Fewer than 20 percent of Americans exercise enough to measurably improve their fitness and their health.

So if you are among the happy few who get 20 to 30 minutes of vigorous exercise every day, why do you do it?

What makes exercise different to you?

Does exercise help you avoid pain?

Does exercise give you pleasure?

If you don’t exercise — and most people don’t — what would make you want to start?

Would you do it to look better?Polucki - Exercise

Would you do it to feel better?

Would you do it to live longer?

Let’s face it — exercise is work. Most people are not looking for more work in their day.

Exercise takes time. Most people have difficulty managing their time.

Most exercise is going to cost you something. Unused home equipment, gym memberships, new shoes and clothes…

And what if you do lose some weight?

You’ll need a whole new wardrobe.

You might start eating differently, thinking differently, spending your time differently, with different people.

I could tell you it’s all worth it.

I could quote thousands of studies that prove it’s worth it.

I could share countless transformational stories.

But I won’t.

Exercise has to be fun, challenging, affordable, with a social reward.

And exercise has to mean the right thing to you.

There are exercise options at any health and fitness level.

Walking, the easiest exercise option, will be a challenge for some, even though it’s free, and if you walk outside your home, you are probably going to get a social reward by meeting someone.

Why I Like Martial Arts

I like martial arts to get my exercise, and here is why.

At any age, health and fitness level, you can participate in martial arts in some way.

You will learn how to breathe, move and fall properly.

At any age, health and fitness level, you will be challenged.

You will meet honorable, disciplined, respectful and brave people.

For the time invested you get:

  • physical fitness
  • mental focus
  • self-defense

To the best of my knowledge, there is no other exercise program that gives you those things.

I love yoga, I love cross-fit, but I invest my exercise time in martial arts.

If you are not getting what you want out your exercise, you will eventually stop exercising.

If you would like to try martial arts, call Santa Clarita Martial Arts toll-free at 855-728-9572.
