Food Allergies, Inflammation, Detoxification and…Chiropractic?

An expert in physical medicine explains the connection between chiropractic care and food allergies, and what you need to know for lasting relief.

By Dr. Thomas Polucki

Food allergy warning: If you suffer with or suspect food allergies, you’ll want to know how inflammation, detoxification, processed foods, antibiotics and glyphosate are keeping you from getting better.

  • Every 15 minutes a person is admitted to an emergency room for a severe food allergy reaction.
    • The CDC reports that there has been a 50 percent increase in children with food allergies in the past 20 years. Now affecting one in 13 children in America.
    • 15 million Americans suffer with diagnosed food allergies.

And it is highly likely that many more people suffer undiagnosed or with subclinical food sensitivities that cause or contribute to seemingly unrelated health issues. Common symptoms include:

  1. headaches
  2. joint and muscle pain
  3. irritability
  4. indigestion
  5. chronic infections
  6. sleep problems
  7. stubborn belly fat

Possible Causes of Food Allergies

Processed foods

Prepackaged, heavily processed convenience foods do not supply the nutrition necessary to maintain healthy immune function in the digestive tract. Additionally, the artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners used to cover up the poor nutritional content of processed foods interfere with digestion and detoxification, compounding the irritation in the digestive tract. Inflammation in the digestive tract allows undigested proteins directly into the blood stream where they create an allergic response.

Helpful bacteria in your digestive tract are known as probiotics. These beneficial bacteria assist in your immune response, detoxification, digestion, absorption of nutrients and some even provide us with important nutrients. Antibiotics in our food and water, antibiotics are given to livestock to bring them to market faster, contaminating our water supply, can kill these probiotics, increasing inflammation in the digestive tract and contributing to food allergies.

The heavy use of glyphosate in conventional farming

More weed killer contaminants are making it to your plate now than ever before. The weed killer glyphosate is used in conventional farming to kill weeds and dry crops prior to harvest. While promised to be safe from its manufacturer, studies indicate significant impairment of critical detoxification pathways and probiotic damage occurs once glyphosate enters the digestive tract.

7 Simple Steps You Can Take to Minimize Food Allergies

A little time invested in preparing natural snacks pays off with easier weight management, less digestive inflammation, and saving money on fast and junk food that has less nutritional value. First, of course, is to stay away from any food you already know you’re allergic to.

Here are just a few more easy options:

  • organic celery sticks;
  • organic carrots;
  • organic berries;
  • organic apple;
  • raw nuts;
  • raw seeds.

TIP: Remember to soak raw nuts and seeds overnight to remove phytic acid, a natural pesticide that seeds produce.

1) Eat at home with real food make from scratch whenever possible.

AND pay attention for digestive inflammation warning signs 30 minutes after eating.

Are you hungry again?

Are you emotionally irritated?

Are you mentally distracted?

Are you tired?

2) Get the best water filter you can afford and store filtered water in a glass container.

Take the number of pounds you weigh.

Drink ½ that number in ounces of filtered water every day to help with detoxification and reduce digestive inflammation.

3) Supplement with refrigerated probiotics.

While there is some debate about shelf life, the labs that guarantee potency require refrigeration.

Certain strains of probiotics have been clinically proven to reduce inflammation and improve detoxification.

4) Do 20 minutes of sweaty exercise every morning.

Improve circulation, oxygenation and detoxification with a no-excuse approach to exercise.

Fun / No special equipment.

Caution: Many people who are already exercising are hurting themselves by overdoing it and creating more inflammation.

5) Learn how to use a foam roller on all your connective tissues.

I teach my patients an advanced full-body foam roller home therapy to decompress from daily stress.

Reducing stress and inflammation in all of the connective tissues relieves pain and discomfort.

6) Learn a deep breathing exercise.

Focused breathing exercises help reduce tension and inflammation throughout the body.

7) Get MicroDecompression© chiropractic treatments to reduce overall stress.

Chemical and emotional stresscan create inflammation in the body if there is pre-existing structural stress on the nerve system.

MicroDecompression© is a new approach toward lasting stress-relieving chiropractic results without any of the trauma and new inflammation associated with twisting and cracking the spine.

One comment

  1. I was shocked when I found out what is causing all these food allergies. A friend’s daughter has a serious fish allergy. If she smells fish cooking, it means a hospital trip. The epi pen will help get her there maybe. You can read the regulations for yourself. Pharmaceutical companies can “self-affirm” GRAS (generally recognized as safe) ingredients. Basically, they decide something like refined GMO soy oil should be GRAS. They do one study, have some experts review it, then they are free to use it without submitting anything to the government and it becomes a protected trade secret. How can the FDA protect the public when even they don’t know what is in pharmaceutical products?
