Before drug sales determined medical education, doctors understood pain differently. When a form of torture started curing certain medical conditions 8000 years ago, Acupuncture turned into a form of treatment.

By stimulating certain feedback sensors the stress/healing switch in the brain flips towards coordinated healing. And spinal joints contain the most concentrated feedback sensors in the body. When spinal joints move properly, the switch stays mostly in the coordinated healing position and only flips to stress hormone production in real emergencies.

When a spinal joint gets stuck, the switch stays mostly in the stress hormone producing position. Eventually the joints and support muscles become painful. So you can find these painful points yourself just off to the side of those bumps going down the center of your back.

And conventional doctors often inject these points with drugs, massage therapist rub these points and acupuncturists pierce these points. But this approach misses the meaning of the pain and provides temporary relief at best.

Only restoring normal motion to the spinal joint allows the sensors in the joint to keep that switch in the brain to the coordinated healing position.

On a personal note, I don’t like general manipulation to reset the switch because of the complexity of spinal joints.
