Whiplash Aftermath Nearly Disables Santa Clarita Fitness Coach

My friend Ellen Como, a fitness coach well-known in our community, called me last week, desperate, suffering from a whiplash injury.

By Dr. Thomas Polucki

I scheduled an appointment with her immediately and she started treatment. Now, with the crisis behind her, she wants to share her experience, and sent this note:

“When it comes to treating your body, always trust your gut.  If a treatment or diagnosis doesn’t feel right get as many opinions as it takes. You know your body best.

“I got injured in a bad auto accident back in September of 2016. After four doctors and nine months of treatment I still had disabling pain. First one doctor just wanted me on pain meds which I wouldn’t do. Then another doctor wanted to put me on antidepressants! How do antidepressants help repair injuries?

“A pain specialist insisted I needed cortisone shots. I try to stay away from steroids but desperate for relief I agreed to give it a try.

“The day of my scheduled cortisone treatment I woke up with my face swollen, so it got postponed.

“I never felt right about the cortisone shots but I couldn’t stand the pain much longer.

“I already completed a prescription of physical therapy and that gave me some temporary relief.

“And after 30 years of fitness coaching I knew the basics to keep my spine strong and healthy.

“I never considered chiropractic because I couldn’t stand the thought of someone twisting and cracking my painful neck. But after the cortisone postponement I reached out to Dr. Polucki because I knew he wouldn’t crack my neck.

“About 10 minutes into our first appointment I knew I was in the right place.

“Dr. Polucki listened, took my feelings seriously and pinpointed exactly why I still had pain.

“Finally, my gut felt right with this decision.

“You should never feel pressured to move forward with something that does not feel right. Injuries can be tricky and you need to stay focused on getting your life back.

“Trust your gut and don’t stop looking until you find the right person that respects your beliefs and goals.”
