Weber moved to Santa Clarita from Florida a little over a year ago to work at the office, formerly called Gilbertson and LeCornu Orthodontics, prompting the recent name change using their long-time catch phrase, “Embrace your smile.”

While Weber noted that many of his colleagues knew they wanted to be an orthodontist from the time they got braces as a child, he actually received a college degree in industrial and systems engineering before he realized his true calling.

“One of my buddies I lived with in college knew the whole time he was going to be a dentist,” Weber recalled. “I never really thought about it, talked to him about it much until right at the end when I was finishing and I had a job… I was really interested in going back to dental school, so made it happen.”

First Weber had to take a few prerequisite science classes just to apply for dental school, and then once he was accepted, he spent the next four years in school to become a dentist.

“Then orthodontics is a residency program after that,” he said. “We do another three years … after dental school doing nothing but studying, reading, treating, researching orthodontics.”

Now a board-certified orthodontist and father of three, Weber’s two older children have braces in what’s called “Phase One” treatment.

“(Phase One) is a kid with mixed dentition, which means mixture of permanent and baby teeth in there, and we see a specific problem that would benefit the patient from going in and taking care of it early, and then kind of getting back out of there and waiting until they’re older for a second phase,” Weber explained. “My older daughter, she’s probably about to finish with hers. My son had a little more going on, so we’re still in the foxhole with him.”

Weber’s youngest daughter, a 5-year-old who just started kindergarten, still has a few years before she reaches an age where orthodontic treatment can be considered, which is recommended at age 7.

“My little girl, obviously she’s not ready,” Weber said. “(But) she likes to come and take toys out of the toy chest in the office.”
