The results are according to the 17th annual Health Care’s Most Wired survey, released recently by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

The 2015 Most Wired survey is designed to provide a barometer measuring information technology use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. The survey of more than 741 participants, representing 39 percent of more than 2,213 hospitals, examined how organizations are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based healthcare in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety, and clinical integration.

“This is a facility award–for clinicians and IT; it’s about use of systems and how effective they are,” said Cindy Peterson, Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Henry Mayo. “It’s an award to be proud of because it shows the community we are focused on our best potential. Our use of technology helps us achieve that.

“The criteria for this award get more difficult each year and there are higher expectations. They look at how hospitals continue to optimize and enhance their systems, which we have done and continue to do at Henry Mayo.”

According to the survey, hospitals are taking more aggressive privacy and security measures to protect and safeguard patient data. Top growth areas in security among this year’s Most Wired organizations include privacy audit systems, provisioning systems, data loss prevention, single sign-on and identity management.
