Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation announced Friday that the UniHealth Foundation awarded a $750,000 grant to support Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s Diabetes Education and Prevention Program.

For everything from spine care to new parenting classes, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital offers a wide variety of support groups and free classes for Santa Clarita residents, hospital officials said Friday.

Henry Mayo was created by local civic leaders and focuses on a singular vision to create the ideal patient-centered environment to surpass expectations, said hospital officials. A part of that vision involves supporting the community through many forms, including the groups that they offer.

“The hospital has even added three more classes since last year,” said Maria Orem, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital representative. “We try to mix them up and add a few options each year.”

Here are some of the support group options:

Cancer Support Group: Meets second Tuesday of each month from 5- 6 p.m. in the Pavilion Meeting Room. For more information: Call (661) 200-2867

Stroke and Brain Injury Support Group: Meets second Wednesday of each month 2- 3:30 p.m. in the Pavilion Meeting Room. Reservation required: Call (661) 200-1440

Caregiver Support Group: Meets second Wednesday of each month from 2- 3:30 p.m. in the ARU Dining Room. For more information: Call (661) 200-2867

Grief Support Group: Meets first and third Thursday of each month from 6- 7:30 p.m. in the Henry Mayo Center, Room 2. Reservation required: Call (661) 200-2229

Free Community CPR Class: Meets third Thursday of each month from 7- 8 p.m. in the Henry Mayo Center, Rooms 4-5. Reservation required: Call (661) 253-8888

Spine Education Class: Valencia location meets second Wednesday of each month from 5- 6 p.m. in the Henry Mayo Ambulatory Care Center at 25751 McBean Parkway, #310. Reservation required: Call (661) 200-1550

Spine Education Class: Canyon Country location meets fourth Wednesday of each month from 5- 6 p.m. in the Golden Valley Plaza at 19065 Golden Valley Road, #101. Reservation required: Call (661) 200-1550

Henry Mayo also offers some low cost classes for expectant parents.

“Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has everything an expectant parent, sibling or family member could need to prepare for their life-changing event,” said hospital officials. “Labor of Love classes and tours are offered throughout the year on the hospital’s campus.”

Labor of Love Childbirth Education Classes: Seven-week series. Classes meet on Tuesdays: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Location: Henry Mayo Center, Room 1. Cost: $225 per couple 

Saturday Labor of Love: Second Saturday of each month: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Location: Henry Mayo Center, Room 1. Cost: $150 per couple This is an exclusive one-time class that covers Week 1 – Week 4 of the seven-week series.

Transition to Parenthood: Tuesdays: 6:30- 9:30 p.m. Location: Henry Mayo Center, Room 1 Cost: Individual Class – $35 per person

Child and Infant CPR (Not a certification class): Tuesdays 6:30- 9:30 p.m. Location: Henry Mayo Center, Room 1 Cost: Individual Class – $35 per person

Successful Breastfeeding: Tuesdays, 6:30- 9:30 p.m. Location: Henry Mayo Center, Room 1 Cost: Individual class, $35 per person

Baby Basics: Fourth Wednesday of each month: 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Location: Henry Mayo Center, Room 1 Cost: Individual Class – $20 per person

Parent Preview Tour: Thursdays, 7 p.m. Meet in Main Hospital, Front Lobby, at 6:45 p.m. Cost: Free (No registration needed) 

Saturday Parent Preview Tour: Fourth Saturday of each month, 1 p.m. Meet in Main Hospital, Front Lobby, at 12:45 p.m. Cost: Free (No registration needed)

Tyke Hike: Third Thursday of each month: 3 p.m. Meet in Main Hospital, Front Lobby, at 2:45 p.m. Cost: Free (No registration needed)

First Weeks Breastfeeding Workshop: Every Thursday, 9:30- 11 a.m. Location: Pavilion Meeting Room, Pavilion Cost: Free

Mommy Time Support Group For Moms: Every Monday, 10- 11 a.m. Please call for location Cost: Free (By reservation only) Call: (661) 200-2229

  1. Hi I’m going to be a new mom and I’m a young parent I’m only 17 yes old and I need to take parenting classes with my boyfriend…. I’m almost 5 months along and I know some basics about taking care of a baby but my boyfriend doesn’t know anything… We both need to learn more about parenting..we would pay for classes but were saving up for my daughter. I was wondering if there’s a program for free for us..please respond back …we need your help .thank you
