Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is a primary hospital serving the Santa Clarita Valley. Previously, without the proper accreditation to treat acute heart attack patients, these victims had to be transported to hospitals in other parts of Los Angeles County.

Precious minutes that could save a patient’s life were lost in transit.
That’s all about the change, now that Henry Mayo has been approved for a STEMI accreditation by the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency.
This new designation will take effect on Sunday, Dec. 1 and means that the full spectrum of heart care will be available to residents of the Santa Clarita Valley and the surrounding community.
“Congratulations to the heart team for the preparation and demonstrated competence in emergency cardiac care and readiness,” said Roger Seaver, CEO and president of Henry Mayo. “This STEMI designation now makes it possible for the hospital to provide immediate interventional cardiac care for those suffering a heart attack.”
STEMI stands for ST elevated myocardial infarctions, the deadliest form of heart attack, which Henry Mayo doctors are now authorized to treat.
Heart attack patients will now be transported directly to Henry Mayo, instead of into the San Fernando Valley or other areas.
Henry Mayo healthcare providers will work in partnership with first responders to save more lives in the SCV, officials said in a news release.
“Henry Mayo is proud to offer the SCV a complete range of cardiovascular services, from prevention, education, non-invasive testing and diagnostic catheterization to interventional cardiac care, angioplasty, stents and open heart surgery,” said Jean Marie Stewart, senior director of Cardiovascular Services at Henry Mayo. “This STEMI designation will allow us to save more lives.”
