Kaiser Permanente’s Peter Laimins, an orthopedic surgeon, says a new sub-specialty medical office is set to open in Santa Clarita in March of 2018.

“We have a huge team that has thought about this for a long time so it’ll be a beautiful, beautiful facility,” said Laimins.

One of the features of the new office are the large monitors for patients to view x-rays as well as communicate with family and specialists anywhere in the country.

“We can skype in family members who may not be local,”  details Laimin. “But also, if we ever need to consult with another specialist … we can set up an appointment where he actually comes onto the monitor and does the interaction with us.”

The new building is expected to offer: cardiology, hematology and oncology, nephrology, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedics and podiatry, urology, as well as a full blood draw and laboratory, x-ray services and urgent care.

“There’s more, it’s not going to be a typical office building in which you show up and sit in a large waiting area with 30 other patients just waiting,” explains Laimins. “The concept will be more like a coffee house. In other words, you’ll come in and we’ll have service reps meeting you at the front door, there’ll be kiosks where you can sign in and get information as far as which lab to go to or where to get an x-ray.”

At the new facility, patients can also sign in on their phones and get an estimated appointment time. When it’s time for their appointment, they will receive a text on their phone, telling them where to go.

“The waiting time is, at times, inevitable, you can’t expect certain delays that occur but we recognize that everybody’s day is important and their time’s important,” says Laimins. “Rather than sitting in a chair waiting, you can at least go outside and maybe read a book or pick up a coffee or charge your phone or go to (the) thrive bar. There’s also a community center there, so it’ll be very, very nice.”

The building is located on Tourney Road off of the Valencia Boulevard exit of the 5 freeway, about 500 yards from the existing primary care building. It is expected to be open seven days a week, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“We’re planning on setting up a transportation system for patients,” reports Laimins. “Let’s say they come to the medical office Building One, which is the original primary care building, and we need to get them to (Building) Two, we’ll set up a transportation system so the patients don’t then have to get in their car.”

Laimins says that for many years loyal Kaiser patients from Santa Clarita have been commuting to Panorama City.

“Essentially we’re all very excited about this new building,” concludes Laimins, “which will be providing sub-specialty services for our Kaiser Permanente patients that live here in Santa Clarita.”
