The team’s 28 members raised a total of $11,130 for the Alzheimer’s Association, surpassing their initial goal of $10,000, according to the walk’s website.

“We had a very successful Walk to End Alzheimer’s here in Santa Clarita,” said Mary Dembkowski of Oakmont of Santa Clarita. “It was just great to see everyone that came out and supported the cause, and it was just a sea of purple walking.”

Team Oakmont’s top fundraisers were Linda Auch — who brought in $2,415 — and Debbie DiCorrado — who raised $2,390.

“My mother Bea’s losing battle with Alzheimer’s ended in January 2013,” DeCorrado stated on her donation page. “In her honor I walk and volunteer to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care and support.”

Dozens of residents, staff, family, friends and supporters donned tie-dyed purple Oakmont Senior Living t-shirts for the two-mile walk, which took place on Oct. 7 at Bridgeport Park in Valencia.

Overall, more than $96,000 was raised by nearly 800 participants from Santa Clarita, according to the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Santa Clarita website.

“Everyone reached their goal and the walk was just a great success,” Dembkowski said. “We have so many wonderful families and friends that year after year, they support the cause, so I want to thank everyone who supported Team Oakmont.”
