Providence Holy Cross Medical Center was recognized today among the nation’s top hospitals, earning Healthgrades’ 2018 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award.

This is the first year that Providence Holy Cross in Mission Hills has made this top 100 list.

Based on patient outcomes across 19 conditions and procedures, the distinction ranks the San Fernando Valley hospital among the top 2 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance. These measures are evaluated by Healthgrades, a leading online consumer resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.  

From 2014 through 2016, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award had, on average, 22.3 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome. During this same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 162,284 lives potentially could have been saved.

The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2018 study period (2014-16), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures — as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).

Providence Holy Cross, known for its emergency and trauma care, also is recognized for excellence for cardiology, pulmonology, surgery and women’s services. The hospital also partners with CHLA for NICU care and with City of Hope for cancer care – programs that bring world class specialty care to the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys. Providence affiliate Facey Medical Group brings a range of specialties to both hospitals, including hospitalist care at Holy Cross.
