Sharon Brubaker, a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, invited Relationship Coach Jessica Hartley to the latest “The Grief Recovery Hour” on KHTS Radio to talk about how she helps individuals facing challenges in their relationships.

“What I find that most people don’t realize (is) that marriage is something you have to work at,” said Brubaker. “You have to create and grow the marriage you want.”

Hartley seconded this, adding that she teaches her clients to see their relationship as “the most sacred vessel for our personal growth.”

“The energy that we share with our partner always reflects back to us, where we’re at,” she explained. “We learn how to navigate through this next challenge and then we grow from it, so it’s this beautiful vessel for growth on an individual level, and then because of that individual work, we grow as a relationship.”

While Hartley does work with those interested in couple-based coaching, she noted she often works with just one partner, which makes her stand out from more traditional relationship help.

“I actually love this approach because it really is a testament to how it’s more of an internal personal thing than it is a couples thing,” Hartley explained.

By changing just one partner’s energy, the way they react to their spouse in various situations and the way they set an example of what they want in the relationship, Hartley noted the spouse typically starts to change too.

“When I’m working with them and we get to a certain part in the program together, then their partner starts to shift, and they say things to me like, ‘I can’t believe he’s a totally different person than he’s ever been before,’” Hartley said. “And they weren’t even doing the program with us — they’re just shifting their energy because we’re shifting this person’s energy.”
