Santa Clarita pediatrician Dr. Rochelle Feldman of Prima Pediatrics offered her opinion on the July defeat of a GOP bill that sought to repeal Obamacare during a recent appearance on KHTS AM-1220.

Feldman noted her discussion of the matter was not about political lines, but about how she believes the bill would have negatively impacted children’s healthcare across the nation.
“My big thing is children’s healthcare,” Feldman said, “and I think everybody needs to know that, had that bill passed, we would have had a disaster in children’s healthcare.”

About 95 percent of the members of the American Academy of Pediatrics — including Feldman herself — vocalized their opposition to the bill in some way, she said.
The reason? The bill would have eliminated much of the current funding for Medicaid and Medi-Cal, which one third of children in the state of California rely on for healthcare, according to Feldman.
“That would have meant that a huge portion of our children would have been without medical care,” she said, noting that virtually all of her patients at Prima Pediatrics use Medi-Cal in some form, even if they have private insurance.
If the bill had passed, Feldman planned to devise a program that would have helped lessen the impact on children in the Santa Clarita Valley by offering a membership-style healthcare plan through Prima Pediatrics.
“It was going to be a plan where anybody could come to my office and be seen for $20 per child per month, that could be seen for up to three visits — no extra costs,” Feldman explained, noting it’s a plan she hopes she never has to put into effect.
While Feldman was in stark opposition of the GOP Obamacare repeal bill from the start, she noted that doesn’t mean she believes the Affordable Healthcare Act is without flaws.
“I am not saying … that the Affordable Healthcare Act is perfect — by far, it is not,” Feldman said. “Yes, we need to make changes to it … but it is the best solution so far.”

I always wished I could have picked you for my children’s pediatrician when they were young, but you weren’t a choice on our insurance plans. Now I know why I had the gut feeling that you were the pediatrician that would have been best for my kids.
Dr. Rochelle Feldman was our family pediatrician until my boys were 16. Dr. Feldman had even diagnosed my older son illness when all the doctors at a hospital I won’t name could not and she is a fighter and got the testing and surgery that was needed to take care of my son. Dr. Feldman is the BEST of the best
