SCV Pregnancy Center Director and CEO Angela Bennett reflected on how she got started there, and how the center helps change lives in the community, during a recent appearance on KHTS AM-1220.

Bennett said she was introduced to the SCV Pregnancy Center many years ago through a friend, who brought to her attention that they were in search of a director.
“A friend told me that they (were) interviewing for a new director about 20 years ago,” Bennett said. “Long story short, I ended up on the board of directors instead at that time, and three years later they decided that I was the next director. So I have been doing this for over 16 years now.”

During her time as the SCV Pregnancy Center director, Bennett has seen many expectant mothers walk through the doors. One client of the center, who was interviewed during another KHTS AM-1220 segment, described her experience:
“My boyfriend had passed away about seven months before, and so I was just really struggling with that,” Shannon said. “I was trying to rebuild my life at the time and just trying to get everything back in order, and … it didn’t feel like the right situation to have a baby.”
Shannon went on to explain that, through coming to the SCV Pregnancy Center, she was able to get her life back on track. She is now in dental school, adding that she is excitedly waiting to to welcome her baby girl in February.
This happy ending is an example of the outcome Bennett said she wants to hear from people who seek help and use the resources provided at the center. She hopes to “provide information, education and practical assistance to those facing pregnancy-related decisions.”
“We have a program for new parents, resources, supplies, we have a public education program — so we have a broad (range) of support and programs to help people in that transition in life,” Bennett explained. “Facing a pregnancy besides the medical component of diagnosing a pregnancy.”
The work being done at the SCV Pregnancy Center is something that Bennett noted she is proud to be a part of, adding she enjoys seeing the positive changes those they help are making in their lives.
“There is nothing better than being involved with people who are making exciting changes in their lives and in others lives,” she said. “I made the decision at one of our fundraising banquets to say to the crowd that being involved in this work and seeing lives touched and helped along the way was so rewarding, that I didn’t care if I ever got another paycheck.”
