The SCV Pregnancy Center has raised about $1.3 million in donations for their brand new facility so far, with a goal of bringing in the final $300,000 needed to pay off the recently purchased building by the end of the year.

After spending its first 14 years in Newhall and then 11 years in Valencia, SCV Pregnancy Center officials purchased a new building on the corner of Rye Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch Road earlier this year.

The “New Building Campaign” to pay for the property brought in the $1 million SCV Pregnancy Center officials needed to make the purchase in its first year and a half.

“I never really expected that we could actually make that happen, but people came together on behalf of the center and wanted to see us have a place that we could call home and be debt free,” said Angela Bennett, the center’s president/CEO.

On Feb. 13, 2018, center officials moved into the new building, with escrow officially closing in March, according to Bennett.

While the SCV Pregnancy Center was still left with $600,000 in debt, Bennett noted that since then, more than half the needed funds have already been pledged.

“We’ve raised pledges of $311,000 already,” Bennett said. “This community is just so generous, and to be able to provide services free of charge for people making pregnancy-related decisions, finding out if they have STDs, learning how to parent, all of those things that we’re doing and then some — (it’s) overwhelming.”

Center officials have set a goal of raising the final $300,000 by the end of 2018 so they can begin 2019 debt free.

“We have some internal desires and objectives that we want to accomplish and our committee for this building campaign set the end of this year as the targeted goal date for the payoff of this debt,” Bennett said. “So we’re working hard towards that.”

She continued, “We’re halfway to paying off the loan that we had when we walked into this place. I can’t imagine, well I can imagine actually, (going into) 2019 debt free, and I’m able to budget another $70,000 in serving this community on top of what we already do.”
