The SCV Pregnancy Center wants the community to know that low-cost STD testing and treatment is available through their clinic at its new location on Rye Canyon Road.

Testing is available for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, with treatment available directly through the SCV Pregnancy Center for all of these except HIV, which is referred out, according to President/CEO Angela Bennett.

“I wanted to convey the importance of STD testing,” Bennett said. “65 million people in the United States have an STD, (and) by the age of 30, 50 percent of sexually active women will have had chlamydia.”

Bennett encouraged getting tested for STDs regularly because sometimes individuals may not even know they have one, or their symptoms will mimic something else, like the flu.

“It’s very, very important to be tested routinely,” Bennett said. “If you change partners, you should be tested before or immediately after changing partners.”

The visit and services related to STD testing are completely free at the SCV Pregnancy Center, with the only charge the direct cost from the lab, which is $40 for all four tests. In addition, a sliding fee scale is available for those who need it, according to Bennett.

“The important thing to know is that it’s easy to get tested — we do that in our clinic, we send out to the lab and get our results back quickly,” she said. “Plus our commitment is to honor and respect every client, and that includes confidentiality for them.”
