With the beginning of a warm summer in our midsts, more and more outdoor activities are being planned. This means that there is a greater chance of bug bites, rashes and poison oak breakouts.

You can get bug bites virtually anywhere, but you have an even greater chance of getting bitten when out hiking, camping or doing any other outdoor activity. If you happen to get bitten, you should clean the bite with soap and water, preferably dial, to remove any contaminated particles. Then, just to ensure that a reaction and or swelling does not occur, you can take an over the counter antihistamine like Benadryl or any anti-histamine that will dry up the bite.

If you enjoy the great outdoors during the summer time, it is helpful to know when the mosquitoes and other bugs are most active. Usually mosquitoes and other bugs are most active during the twilight hours of dawn and dusk.

One method to cleanse the skin of poison oak is to rinse the skin with rubbing alcohol and then wash the affected area with degreasing dish soap. One sure way to protect your skin form the oily poison is to always try to wear protective clothing and to know what poison oak looks like.
