Heart Hurt, And Not From Unrequited Love? Get It Checked Out Friday

henry_mayo_logoHenry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s mission of providing first class health care for the community goes beyond the hospital walls with quarterly “Care for Your Heart” Health Fairs. The next free community health fair is scheduled on Friday, May 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Community Center in Newhall.

During the health fair, the community is invited to participate in free health screenings and receive valuable healthcare tips and information to promote heart health.

The goal is to encourage SCV residents to take a more active role in managing their health and become better healthcare partners with their own physicians by offering access to resources and education.

Upon arrival, attendees receive a heart health passport and summary to record their screening results. When complete, they receive a health summary of their results; Henry Mayo staff will be on hand to answer health questions.

On average, one third of the participants attend two or more consecutive health fairs. The heart health passports make it possible for them to compare screening results and report improvements. Results showed that 27% of attendee’s scores stayed the same, and 54% saw an improvement.

The health fair offers free health education materials, nutrition and smoking cessation information, and a series of health screenings, including:

* Blood Pressure Monitoring

* Height and Weight Analysis

* Body Fat Analysis

* Oxygen Saturation and Carbon Monoxide Measurement

* Cholesterol Test (12-hour fasting recommended)

* Glucose Test

* Stroke Education

Join us on Friday, May 11, 2012, 7:30 – 10 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Community Center, located on 22421 Market Street in Newhall. The health fair is open to the community; admission and health screenings are free. Spanish speaking materials and translators are available. For more information, please call (661)200-1306.
