Prayer Angels for the Military and the American Legion Post 507 teamed up this past Saturday to host the Hearts for Heroes care packaging event at the Old Town Newhall Library where community members made and decorated hundreds of Valentine’s cards to send our troops overseas.
Dozens of families were in attendance to give thanks and kind words to past and present military members as well as to send well wishes and valentines to deployed service members.

“The event was held to raise funds for postage, collect donation items, and make handmade Valentine’s Day cards that will be delivered to Troops in Afghanistan, Firefighters & Law Enforcement,” said J.D. Kennedy, Commander of Post 507.
Free lunch was served by the American Legion to care packaging volunteers or a $3 donation for non-volunteers to raise postage funds.
“As a veteran service organization, the American Legion was proud to partner with Prayer angels for the Military to raise funds for our local troops and pay for care packages to be sent to deployed troops. It was a huge success and we look forward to continuing to partnering with the community to provide the best services to our nation’s heroes,” Kennedy said.
In addition to the attendees, surprise guests included Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon, Mayor Bob Kellar, and Chairman of the SCV Chamber of Commerce Fred Arnold.
