The National Weather Service says that a dominant high pressure system will continue hot temperatures, with the peak of the heat wave Thursday or Friday and the hot temperatures persisting through the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to reach 105 degrees in the valley and lower mountain elevations and 107 degrees Thursday and Friday.

Single digit relative humidity will also create heightened fire danger, although an increase in monsoonal moisture could occur over the area between Friday and Saturday, which may cause some discomfort with hot air mass already in place. Heat index values in some locations could approach critical heat warning thresholds.

To escape the heat, residents may want to head towards the coast, wher temperatures along the beaches are expected to be in the 70s to low 80s, while inland coastal temperatures will reach 90 degrees through Saturday.

People planning outdoor activities should take into consideration the hot temperatures and adjust their activities accordingly. Wear loose-fitting light-weight clothing and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Remember that designated Los Angeles County cooling centers are open at the SCV Senior Center on Market Street in Newhall and the Valencia Library at Valencia Boulevard at Magic Mountain Parkway.

Never, ever, leave children, the elderly or pets in enclosed automobiles, even for a short period of time or even if the windows are partially open. Temperatures can quickly rise to life-threatening levels.
