The Citizens Public Library Advisory Committee will have its first meeting tonight at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
The meeting is open to the public.
The committee was announced in October with the intent to assist the City of Santa Clarita in transitioning from the County of Los Public Library into the Santa Clarita Public Library, which will become official on July 1 next year.

On August 24, City Council voted to withdraw from the County Library and assume control of its three libraries in Canyon County, Newhall and Valencia. The resolution also stated the City’s intent to contract with Library Systems and Services, LLC, to staff and operate the libraries.
The City received approximately 70 applications for the committee by the November 12 deadline.
On November 23, City Council approved 37 applications to serve, though not without some protest from those who weren’t selected.
In addressing the complaints, and noting the propensity for some committee members to skip meeting obligations, Council added a stipulation that allows frequent public attendees to fill neglected seats.
The Citizen Public Library Advisory Committee is expected to sunset, or conclude, after nine months.
