We are our brother’s keeper. After witnessing carnage in their East African country of Kenya in 2008, a registered nurse named Debra Akello, and a financial planner named Joy Burton, decided to “help somebody as they passed along, so their lives would have meaning.” With that, Helping Hands International Foundation of Saugus (HHIF) was born. They are a non profit organization, working at the grass roots level with the underprivileged in under served areas around the globe, mainly focusing on women and children.
This year Helping Hands International Foundation has adopted a village in Kenya’s Kamreri Okumba. However, the village is in need of supplies, including:
- A medical clinic
- Clean drinking water
- Sponsorship for orphaned children
Because of this, a Black Tie Fundraising Dinner has been planned for Saturday September 10th, 2011 from six thirty pm until eleven thirty pm at the Hyatt in Valencia at 24500 Town Center Drive.
The money donated will go toward providing healthcare to third world countries, with the goal being to raise $200,000. This will be used to construct a medical clinic and a clean water well in the village. We are only limited by the breadth of our imagination and the strength of our will.
If you would like to receive additional information about Helping Hands International Foundation, please contact Debra Akello at (310) 500-6155 or (800)986-9640 email (dakello@hhifinc.org). Donation is $200 per person.
