In the week since Haiti was devastated by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake, groups the world over, including some local non-profits, have rushed to provide aid. Now Helping Hands International Foundation (HHIF), which provides medical relief to impoverished communities across the globe, is preparing to join the efforts as well.

HHIF has gathered a group of more than 30 doctors and nurses, several from Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. These volunteers are willing to pay their own way to the Caribbean nation, but HHIF spokesperson Debra Akello says they are still in need of materials.

“We’re looking for monetary donations,” Akello said. But they could also use “supplies like gloves, masks, syringes, and medications.”

Donations can be made through the Foundation’s website. Click here to learn how you can help. Materials can be dropped off at 26893 Bouquet Canyon Rd, Suite C-206 in Saugus.

HHIF was founded in 2006 in Santa Clarita. The organization strives to eradicate homelessness and hunger by working at the grassroots level to support impoverished communities. Most of their efforts are located in the United States and Kenya.
