More than 9,000 children were admitted to the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in 2012, according to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital officials.
The donate-a-bear collection provides an opportunity for children under 14 years old to have a stuffed animal to comfort themselves in traumatic situations when they are treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, according to Maria Strmsek, Director of Volunteer Services at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
“Studies have shown that children feel comfort when they have something to hold onto during stressful situations,” said Strmsek.
“This is an opportunity for the general public to help provide teddy bears for child patients at our hospital. It will surely make a difference in a child’s time of need,” according to her statement.
It is recommended for the teddy bear to be between nine and 12 inches. Used teddy bears or teddy bears with removal parts are not permitted to be donated.
Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is located at 23845 McBean Parkway, Valencia, CA 91355-2083.
