High School Musical Comes To The Canyon Theatre Guild

The Disney Channel’s smash hit musical will explode in-to life on the stage at the Canyon Theatre Guild beginning January 24, 2009.

It’s the first day after winter break at East High and all of the kids are back in their cliques recounting their vacations and looking forward to the New Year. Basketball team captain, Troy Bolton discovers that Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High and they’re in the same home room.

The eccentric drama teacher, Ms. Darbus is casting for a school musical and excitement runs high.  Drama Diva Sharpay and her twin brother, Ryan are confident they will be cast in the leading roles – again. But they and everyone else in the school are surprised when Troy and Gabriella get called back for the leading roles.

Troy’s father, Coach Bolton doesn’t want his son in a play and neither do the other team members. Gabriella’s Science Team is equally unenthusiastic about her involvement in the play.

The Jocks and the Brainiacs devise a plan to trick Troy and Gabriella into forgetting about the musical, and committing to their respective upcoming competitions.

The Thespians hopefully strut their stuff at the auditions but they’re no match for Sharpay who convinces Ms. Darbus to schedule the auditions at a time that conflicts with the Science Decathlon and the Championship Basketball Game.

This high-energy, family-friendly musical will be presented every Saturday evening at 8:00 PM, with Sunday matinees at 1:00 through February 22.

There will also be Saturday matinees on February 7, 14, and 21st. The Canyon Theatre Guild’s Old Town Newhall Playhouse is located at 24242 Main Street.

Tickets are priced at $10 – $12 and $15 and are available by calling the box office at 661-799-2702.
