Santa Clarita, CA. — The Hispanic Business Committee of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the Hispanic Business Committee (HBC) Scholarship Program.
This will be the first year HBC awards five scholarships to students in the Santa Clarita Valley. Dora Zavala, 2005 Chair of the Hispanic Business Committee, remarked, “We are excited to lead and support Hispanic higher education and are committed to providing opportunities for students to pursue their dreams.” The scholarship funds were raised from the committees successful first ever Excelencia Awards Gala, sponsored by Chiquita Canyon, and held at the Valencia Hyatt last fall. The Excelenica Gala Event Chair, Paul De La Cerda, said “The committees vision for the scholarship program is to strengthen the community by advancing the education of local Hispanics students. One of our goals is to support local students who have aspirations to earn a college degree.”
The amount of each scholarship is $500.00. It is being offered to one student from each of the following schools; Valencia High ● Saugus High ● Hart High ● Canyon High ● Bowman. For students who are interested, they must fill out the Hispanic Business Committee Scholarship Application, which can be picked up at the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce or downloaded at www.scvhbc.org. Sergio Ibarra, Chair of the Hispanic Business Committee Scholarship Program, stated, “To ensure all applications receive full consideration, it is crucial that it be filled out completely and submitted back to the Chamber by the deadline – March 31, 2005. HBC wishes the best of luck and success to all Class of 2005 students in the Santa Clarita Valley!”
