Indiana Jones adventure thrills kids and families.

More than 200 adventurers of all ages enjoyed a special screening of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” Saturday morning, thanks to the generosity of some local business owners.

Dave and Monique Wurts, who own Burger King and Earl of Sandwich franchises in Newhall and Saugus, bought out the Regal Cinema in Valencia as a special treat for families involved with the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer.

“I didn’t really care if I liked the movie or not, it was all about doing something for the Hoefflin kids,” said Dave Wurts.

Wurts, who sponsored a special screening of the last installment of the “Star Wars” movies, said that all of the families in attendance seemed to like the movie, which opened Thursday. Despite a provision prohibiting special screenings before May 31, Regal Crown management was able to get a waiver for the charity that helps families with children who have cancer.

Chris Hoefflin, Michael's father, said that the film brought back special memories, since the "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars" movies were his son's favorites. Michael Hoefflin died May15, 1996.

Organizers, which included KHTS station owner Carl Goldman, said that the movie wasn’t just an adventure on the screen, but provided families a great escape from their day-to-day reality.
