The Michael Hoefflin Foundation is pleased to announce the
appointment of Jeffrey Shapiro as the new Executive Director. Shapiro is replacing Scott Schauer who has
been Acting Executive Director for the last three years. Established in 1995, the Michael Hoefflin
Foundation provides emotional and financial support to families battling pediatric
cancer. The Foundation also supplies
grant funding to innovative research projects hoping to find better treatments,
and one day a cure, for this terrible disease.
Shapiro comes to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation with over
25 years of non-profit management expertise.
His experience ranges from serving as Associate Director for Corporate
Relations at California Institute of Technology; to, more recently, providing
leadership as the Executive Director of the Alumni Association at CalArts. With this background, Shapiro will bring a
wide variety of new ideas and viewpoints to the Foundation.
For the past three years, Board Member Scott Schauer has
acted as Executive Director. Originally
accepting the position on a temporary six-month basis, Schauer extended his
tenure at the request of the board to oversee the recent growth of programs and
services to meet the ever-increasing need.
After a short transitional period, Schauer will return to oversee his
own businesses and return to his role of Board Member and sponsor of the
Foundation. “I look forward to these
next few months,” commented Schauer. “I
have always enjoyed assisting the Foundation as a volunteer and I’m excited to
join their ranks once again!”
Chris Hoefflin, founder of the Michael Hoefflin
Foundation expressed, "Scott has demonstrated outstanding leadership and
management of the Foundation for several years as he helped us bridge the gap
between Executive Directors. We are
deeply grateful to him for all of his effort and accomplishments. His compassion for our children and their
families, and his dedication to the Foundation's mission has been evident
throughout his term as the executive member of staff. We look forward to Scott's continued help
with the governance of the Foundation as he returns now to a voluntary
leadership position."
"We look
forward, with great anticipation, to Jeffrey's leadership. He brings to
the Foundation a wealth of experience and passion, and we are confident in his
ability to help the Foundation continue its development as we serve an ever
increasing number of children with cancer."
