This year’s event, called Halloween on Route 66, took residents on “a trip down memory lane on America’s highway” and featured a themed “trunk-or-treat” area, car show, BMX stunt show and food trucks.Real Life Church Hosts Halloween On Route 66 Event

“Route 66 is America’s highway—it stretches across the United States,” said Sean Costello, a spokesman for Real Life Church. “We thought that was a good theme because everyone is on a journey, everyone is on a road. We hope through this community event that when that road gets rocky in people’s lives, it will lead them here. When something maybe doesn’t go so well they can think of us and the church as a safe place to come.”

While last year’s event drew about 12,000 community members, event officials expected even more to attend this year.

“Every year it’s grown by thousands,” Costello said, adding that they planned for about 15,000 attendees. “We challenged the people from our church to bring 600,000 pieces of candy. That ends up being somewhere in the neighborhood of six to 10 bags per family.”

The stunt show was presented by Perfection on Wheels BMX Stunt Team, which specializes in offering positive messages to young audiences about topics like anti-bullying and character-building during their performances.

“With an event like this that grows every year, we’re just trying to make it a safe, fun environment,” Costello said. “It’s an event that families from all over SCV can be a part of and be able to come back to every year as we try to outdo ourselves every year.”
