Volunteers will cook and serve Thanksgiving meals for the more than 225 seniors attending, as well as deliver Thanksgiving meals to over 100 homebound seniors, according to officials.
This Thanksgiving marks the 36th year the Lions Club has hosted a senior Thanksgiving Dinner.
“We turn the senior center into a family center on Thanksgiving Day,” said Flo Lawrence, who organized the event.
Lawrence described the event as a perfect storm of charity from local businesses and community members who donate time, funds, and food for this event every year.
“We have young and old people coming together to celebrate Thanksgiving for those who might not have somewhere else to go,” he added.
So far, community organizations have donated over $3000 towards Thanksgiving staples, such as turkey and ham.
Additional food for the event will be donated by many local restaurants, including Salt Creek Grille, Larsen’s Steakhouse, Chi Chi’s Pizza, and more.
Students from West Ranch High School, Golden Valley High School, and College of the Canyons culinary programs will bake desserts for the seniors.
The amount of volunteers, outnumber the seniors registered for the event, said Lawrence. Many of these volunteers are high school students
“Seniors are our greatest treasure, and we need to take care of them, cherish them, and include them especially during holidays,” Lawrence said.
The event begins at 10 a.m. All seniors are welcome, and are asked to RSVP by calling (661) 259-9444.
