Santa Clarita Valley Offers Plethora Of Thanksgiving Events

The Thanksgiving holiday is one of the biggest weekends for travel during the year, with people visiting family scattered across the United States.

California Highway Patrol Maximum Enforcement

In an effort to keep local travelers safe, the CHP will engage in a Maximum Enforcement Period from Wednesday at 6 p.m. to Sunday at 11:59 p.m. CHP officials remind all motorists to use safety belts, never drink and drive and call 911 if there is an impaired driver on the road.

For those who plan to stay in the Santa Clarita Valley this Thursday or who are visiting family in the area, there are plenty of ways to celebrate for people of all ages. Santa Clarita residents are also showing their thanks by giving back to those in need during the holiday.

Boys and Girls Club Donate-A-Turkey

The Boys and Girls Club of SCV is hosting a Thanksgiving meal giveaway for 100 families in need, in partnership with Single Mothers Outreach and KHTS AM-1220.

On Tuesday, the families will gather for entertainment, a full Thanksgiving meal provided by Salt Creek Grille, and to pick up their Thanksgiving baskets to prepare dinner on Thursday. Each family will receive a turkey, along with other traditional Thanksgiving side dishes.

All along, community members have been donating the food to create these gift baskets. KHTS will accept donations until the end of the day on Monday.

Supplies needed include yams, potatoes, bread rolls, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, stuffing, sparkling cider, disposable pans and vegetable oil.

Newhall Community Center Thanksgiving Dinner

The Newhall Community Center on Market Street will host a free Thanksgiving dinner for community center and Senior Center members on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

City officials will join guests for a free dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and dessert.

Turkey Toss in Stevenson Ranch

Richard Rioux Memorial Park will host a free Turkey Toss event on Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., giving families a chance to win a free Thanksgiving turkey. There will be games, prizes and fun for all ages.

SCV Senior Center Thanksgiving Feast

For 35 years, the SCV Senior Center has been hosting a free Thanksgiving meals for seniors, usually attracting as many as 200 guests. On Thursday at 10 a.m., seniors are invited to the 36th annual Thanksgiving dinner. The event is put together by the Castaic and Santa Clarita Lions Clubs, and students from the William S. Hart Union High School District will volunteer to serve the meal. Reservations are required. Call 661-259-9444 for more information.

Giving-Thanks-Giving Feast

The Newhall Bicycle Company may be closed, but the former owners still plan to put on the ninth annual Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday morning and afternoon on Main Street. The feast is free and open to the public. Food and supplies donations are also needed. Non-perishable donations can be dropped off at South Valley Church in Newhall. Perishable food donations, such as turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and vegetables need to be prepared and ready to eat and dropped off between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in downtown Newhall on Thursday.
