“Summer may be winding down in other parts of the country, but Southern California’s summer heatwave trudges on,” SCV Water officials said in a press release. “Although our hot weather typically spans several months, August is the right time to focus on landscape maintenance and project planning.”

The first class Maintenance and Planning and Designing a Sustainable Landscape is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m., led by Tim Wheeler.

Wheeler has degrees in both Horticulture Science and Park Administration. Wheeler has been in the Green Industry for over 25 years. During that time, Wheeler has specialized in landscape management, landscape education, and water conservation.

In the first class residents are set to learn how to incorporate sustainable gardening concepts for landscaping projects, according to officials.

The second class Proper Turf Care and Turf Substitutes is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11 starting at 9 a.m. and is set to be led by Stephen Williams.

Williams received his horticultural training at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California. Williams honed his skills at Descanso and Huntington Botanical Gardens where he worked as garden staff and plant propagator nursery manager for 10 years.

The goal of this class is for homeowners to learn techniques to maintain turf and help it thrive.

The two classes are free and are scheduled to be held at SCV Water, located at 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
