Hometown Heroes To Be Celebrated By Red Cross

The Santa Clarita Valley District of the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is seeking nominations for its 2009 Hometown Heroes Recognition event.

The event celebrates the values and principles of the American Red Cross by recognizing people in the Santa Clarita Valley who have taken action in a time of crisis to help others and who consistently show an extraordinary gift for human compassion.

Hero honors are being awarded in eleven different categories: First Responder, Youth, Educator, Medical, Workplace, Military, Youth Sports Mentor, Senior, Adult, Animal, and Corporate Hero.

The qualifying recognition period is June 1, 2009 through May 31, 2010. The nomination deadline is June 15th, 2010. Application forms can be downloaded at heroes.hometownstation.com.

Completed forms may be faxed to (661) 255-2040.

The Hometown Heroes Recognition event celebrates the values and principles of the American Red Cross by recognizing people in the Santa Clarita Valley who have taken action in a time of crisis to help others and who consistently show an extraordinary gift for human compassion.

Hometown Heroes will be honored at a lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, at the Santa Clarita Activities Center, 20800 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita. Proceeds from the event will benefit Red Cross emergency response and educational services in Santa Clarita.

The Red Cross provides relief for victims of house and apartment fires, earthquakes, floods, hazardous material spills, transportation accidents, explosions, and other natural or man-made disasters – 24 hours a day.  Last year, the chapter trained more than 100,000 people in vital life-saving skills, including CPR and first aid.

The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is a United Way partner in Bridging the Gap in Los Angeles. Everyday, local Red Cross volunteers strive to make Los Angeles a safer and stronger community for all.
