A new program emphasizing healthy living and global involvement has chosen Santa Clarita as the site of its first ever GlobalCAL50 Forum Oct. 5-8. The program is administered by HOPSports, an award-winning educational media network, content library and production company focused on reviving physical education programs in schools and community venues, whose corporate offices are located in Santa Clarita.
City Parks Director Rick Gould is enthusiastic about the city’s involvement.
“They are planning on doing an educational symposium that focuses on healthy communities, and obviously they have a model that they think is working,” Gould said.

HOPSports is the company behind the award-winning physical education programs pioneered at Sierra Vista Junior High School, under the direction of Hart District teacher George Velarde (click here for story). These programs recently drew the attention of visiting dignitaries and educational consultants from Korea and Japan.
“We’ve built a lot of good stuff that fits within their model,” Gould continued. “The trails, the aquatics center and such. What they are doing is holding a forum or conference to showcase their model of a community and schools that are doing it right.”

The announcement was made today with simultaneous remarks and unveiling of the GlobalCAL50 Forum website www.global50forum.org at the International CES Show, the world’s largest consumer technology trade show in Las Vegas, by HOPSports CEO and Founder, Thomas Root.
The theme of the GlobalCAL50 Forum is Community Active Living. VIP delegates representing the brightest and most committed minds from around the globe have been invited to participate, including 46 countries and 82 confirmed attendees to date. This historical event marks the first global forum linking technology with a holistic concept of physical activity, promoted by world-wide leading experts.
The mission of the forum is to create an active participant 3D model for Community Active Living. International delegates will be invited to virtually present their research and findings during individual 30-minute filming sessions against a green screen.
