Host Of Events Slated For 4th of July

Parade, Fireworks and Free Concert Among Scheduled Festivities!

The City of Santa Clarita, along with other community organizations, has a host of events planned to help residents celebrate the birth of the nation. The 2007, Fourth of July activities include: the Independence Day 5k run, the Annual 4th of July Parade, and a fireworks extravaganza at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, courtesy of the City of Santa Clarita.

The 4th of July activities kick off with the Santa Clarita Rotary Club serving hotcakes at 7:00 a.m., in the Roger Dunn golf parking lot on San Fernando Road, between 5th and 6th Streets at its annual Pancake Breakfast.
[view:node_ad=5]Activities continue with the Independence Day 5k Run put on by the Santa Clarita Runners along the City's parade route. Pre-registration entry fees are $25 now through June 30th. A $5 late registration fee will apply June 30th. Entry forms are available at local fitness centers, sporting goods stores, and Vincenzo's in Saugus or Agua Dulce, on the club website at www.scrunners.org.

The annual Santa Clarita 4th of July Parade will begin at 9:45 a.m. on San Fernando Road in Old Town Newhall.  This year’s theme is “20 Years of Cityhood,” in honor of the City of Santa Clarita’s 20th anniversary. Santa Clarita's First Mayor, Hon. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, will serve as the parades’ grand marshal. The mile-long parade will travel down Lyons Avenue to Orchard Village, finishing at Newhall Park. For parade info, please visit www.scvparade.com. Look for the KHTS Fire Truck in this year’s parade!

Also, The Greens at Valencia will feature an old fashioned 4th of July BBQ and a live band. Make sure to bring your blanket for later to enjoy prime viewing of the fireworks from the putting course. Please call 661-222-2900 for reservations.

The Fourth of July festivities will finish with a breathtaking fireworks display over the Westfield Valencia Town Center sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita. The fireworks show entitled “America Journey from American Dream”, will begin approximately at 9:15 p.m. and last about thirty minutes. For more information regarding the fireworks show, go to www.santa-clarita.com.

To avoid road closures due to the fireworks, please enter the Westfield Valencia Town Center from Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia Blvd., and Citrus Avenue entrances. McBean Parkway between Valencia Blvd. and Magic Mountain Parkway will be closed to traffic from 8:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.

While you’re watching the magnificent fireworks show, listen on your portable radio or from your car radio to the fireworks soundtrack broadcasted live on KHTS AM 1220.

Fireworks will also appear at Magic Mountain, Stevenson Ranch, and Castaic Lake.
In an effort to assure this year’s 4th of July celebration is fire-free, the City of Santa Clarita has teamed up with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to remind residents about the high fire danger and that even during 4th of July weekend, fireworks are illegal in the City of Santa Clarita and in Los Angeles County.

“Residents should know that fireworks are not only illegal in Santa Clarita, they are a fire hazard and one that we will not tolerate. Our message to residents is that we have a lot to celebrate and be grateful for on this wonderful day, let’s do it in a safe and responsible manner,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean.
