Massive bicycling event coming to Santa Clarita next
Saturday.
will send the sport's top bicyclists from Sacramento
to San Diego, with eight stages of
scenic competition in between.
Saturday, February 21st, the riders will be in Santa Clarita
for the start of stage 7. Among them will be cycling legend Lance Armstrong,
two-time Tour of California defending champion Levi Leipheimer, three-time
World Champion Oscar Freire and 2008 Olympic gold medal winner and world
champion Fabian Cancellara.
Unlike years past, Santa Clarita will only host a starting
stage in 2009. While the beginning of a stage is generally more subdued than a
stage finish, there will be greater opportunities to get up close to the
athletes.
The race begins at 12:00 p.m.
Saturday afternoon at the Westfield Valencia
Town Center,
and will take the riders to Pasadena.
