Construction at Wheeler Ridge Interchange prompts full
directional nighttime freeway closures in next two weeks.
Falsework in preparation to construct the new overpass will
require a full directional freeway closure of Interstate 5 at Laval Road/Wheeler
Ridge (Exit 219B) for several nights.
Southbound closures are scheduled from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
on the following dates:
Thursday, March 26
Friday, March 27
Monday, March 30
Tuesday, March 31
Wednesday, April 1
Northbound closures are scheduled from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
on the following dates:
Thursday, April 2
Friday, April 3
Monday, April 6
Tuesday, April 7
Traffic will be reduced from four lanes to one lane at the
Wheeler Ridge Interchange (Exit 219B) where flaggers will redirect traffic back
onto Interstate 5 at Laval Road.
Once the falsework is completed, travel lanes in both directions will be
reduced from four lanes to three lanes until late summer, 2009.
Griffith Construction Company began the $6.3 million project
in September 2008 and anticipates completion by late summer 2009. The project
will construct a new bridge at the Interstate 5 Wheeler Ridge Road Interchange,
modify the existing northbound and westbound Laval
Road off-ramps and signalize the intersection at Laval
Road East at Wheeler
Ridge Road.
Kern County Roads and Caltrans thank the motoring public for
their patience as we work to upgrade this freeway interchange. Motorists are reminded to allow additional
travel time and drive with extra care through construction areas.
