I-5/Magic Mountain Update

The city issued the following update regarding the area’s road work.

The construction of the new water line by-pass on Magic Mountain Parkway west of The Old Road by Valencia Water is complete. In addition, the construction of two water lines by Castaic Lake Water Agency west of The Old Road on Magic Mountain Parkway is anticipated to be complete by the end of this month.

The City is continuing coordination with affected utility companies on a bi-weekly basis for various utility relocation and removal on Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road.  The City has requested Caltrans to expedite the review process for the utility construction permits.

Mobilization by AT&T and ExxonMobil is anticipated to begin in May once encroachment permits are received from Caltrans.  There will be periodic lane closures in the area of Magic Mountain Parkway between Tourney Road and the southbound I-5 off-ramp.

The general contractor, Security Paving Construction, is continuing the construction of the rectangular shaped storm drain box, which is located west of The Old Road. The construction of the box culvert west of the existing Old Road between Skyview Lane and Magic Mountain Parkway is complete.  The contractor is currently working on completing the box on The Old Road south of Magic Mountain Parkway and north of Skyview Lane.  The construction of the storm drain box is approximately 75 percent complete.  This work is necessary in order to realign The Old Road.

Currently, we are working on Phase 2 of the 11 phases for these improvements.  The anticipated completion of this phase is fall 2007.  During this phase, existing ramps, at least one lane, and local roadways (Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road) will be open for vehicular traffic.

Please check the City of Santa Clarita's website at or the project hotline (661) 290-2297, for any extended major lane closures, detours, or news associated with this project.

Thank you for your continued patience and support!
