The man who was killed Sunday night while running across Interstate 5 freeway has been identified and the next of kin has been notified, officials said Thursday.

The man was identified as David Kwon, 32, of Oxnard and his family has been notified, said Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s Office.

The man was running across the I-5 freeway north of Rye Canyon Road, when he collided with the side of a 2013 Nissan, breaking the rear view mirror and shattering the driver’s-side window, according to a CHP report.
The victim has been identified as a 32-year-old Asian man by the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s Office officials, but his name has not been released as of Monday, pending the notification of the next of kin, according to Lt. Kelly Yagerlener of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s Office.
The accident occurred at 11:50 p.m. and the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:01 a.m. by Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.
Abraham Chavez, 62, of Bakersfield, and Ricardo Chavez, 61, of El Paso, who were in the car suffered no injuries.
Abraham Chavez, who was driving the Nissan, said he was startled by the impact to the side of his car, according to the report.
No arrests were made and the investigation remains ongoing.
