Illegal Immigration Stirring Up SCV

The organization Save Our State (SOS) held a rally Saturday to speak out against illegal immigration in the state of California.

The group was met by protesters claiming SOS hosted racist members. Protesters created a flyer calling for support to “Shut Down The Hate-Rally.” The flyer continued to describe the SOS rally as “sanctioned racism, bigotry, and hate.”

SOS leaders have publicly claimed that their issue is not with minority races, but rather with illegal immigration being allowed in California. They blame illegal immigration for adding a greater financial burden to California’s economy in these tough times.

David Gauny, who is running for Santa Clarita City Council, and current City Council member Bob Kellar spoke at the rally. The two shared sentiments that they were not for racism but for upholding the law. Illegal immigration, as may be inferred from the name, is against the law and should not be overlooked according to Gauny and Kellar.

The rally remained civil, even with the two opposing sides present. Law enforcement was on hand in case any incident occurred; however words were all that transpired between the protesters and SOS supporters. Protestors’ chants included, “Yes we can” and “Down with racism.”
