Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Monday evening, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Search and Rescue members responded to a call for an injured hiker off of Templin Highway and the Golden State Freeway (I-5)….
The hiker apparently fell down a steep embankment and became disoriented as he injured his feet and legs and was unable to walk out of the area. The victim, John Sherman, 41, was found by another hiker who notified authorities of the emergency.
Because it was dark, rescue personnel could not carry him from the area, so a rescue helicopter was called in to light up the area.
Sherman spent the night with members of the Sheriff Search and Rescue team at Henry Mayo Hospital, where he remains to be treated for minor cuts and scratches.
