“The most exciting thing that is happening right now is a new technology called the Made for iPhone hearing aid,” Aronson said.

With Apple integration, wearers can make adjustments as easily as they can check e-mail or watch a video, according to CNN.

If you are in a noisy restaurant, you can record the background noise with your phone and your hearing aids will adjust to the right setting, Aronson said. The hearing aids will automatically adjust themselves when you are in that restaurant again.

“Audio is delivered wirelessly from your paired iPhone, iPad or iPod touch directly to your Made for iPhone hearing aid,” according to Apple’s website.

The new advances in hearing aid technology continue to help those that are hearing impaired, and break down the stigma of hearing aids.

More than 36 million people in the U.S. have some hearing loss, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, but only one out of five people who need a hearing aid actually have one, according to CNN.

“Having your hearing checked at any age is important,” Aronson said. “Alzheimer’s, dementia and heart disease have all been linked to hearing loss.”

Aronson started out her career as a special education teacher, and then later specialized in pediatric audiology, so she stresses the importance of having everyones hearing checked.

“I saw children who had been misdiagnosed with a mental retardation,” Aronson said, “when they actually only had hearing loss.”
